Events Beirut Energy Forum 2011

Back in 2010, Beirut celebrated its first energy forum. The BEF 2010 witnessed the participation of around 370 persons representing 19 countries. The event provided a platform for professionals, policymakers, practitioners, donors, academics and other interested individuals and companies to interact and exchange information, views, ideas and knowledge relevant to the energy status and renewable energy development in Lebanon, the Mediterranean region and the Arab World.

This year, the Beirut Energy Forum was held on 29 and 30 September 2011 under the patronage of the Minister of Energy and Water HE. Eng. Gebran Bassil. Organized by MCE Group, the Beirut Energy Forum 2011 is supported by the League of Arab States, the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), the European Union, and the Order of Engineers and Architects in Beirut, in partnership with “Le Salon des Energies Renouvelables de Lyon” in its 9th edition, and with the Lebanese Center for Energy Conservation (LCEC) being the strategic partner.

Beirut Energy Forum 2011 included a large exhibition area allowing direct interaction among decision makers, commercial companies, and professionals. In parallel, the event witnessed 2-day conference sessions with highly selected interventions and presentations, including interventions by 2 internationally-renowned keynote speakers.

The Beirut Energy Forum enjoys the support and cooperation of the Regional Center for Renewable Energy and Energy Efficiency (RCREEE), the Lebanese Solar Energy Society (LSES), the Lebanon Green Building Council (LGBC), the Ashrae Lebanon Chapter, the EU-funded project MED-EMIP and MED-ENEC II.

Renewable Energies Renewables Global Status Report

The Renewables Global Status Report provides an integrated perspective on the global renewable energy situation.

Since the first Global Status Report was produced five years ago, the analysis has become the most frequently referenced report on renewable energy business and policy, serving a wide range of audiences from investors and government decision makers to students, project developers, researchers, and industrial manufacturers.

It provides testimony of the undeterred growth of electricity, heat, and fuel production capacities from renewable energy sources, including solar PV, wind power, solar hot water/heating, biofuels, hydropower, and geothermal.

Energy Efficiency Arab-German Yearbook 2011

Based on the success of the ‘Arab-German Yearbook Construction and Consulting 2010’, we are proud to present an updated version of this publication.
Please visit the Ghorfa website here: http://www.ghorfa.de/yearbook_ar.html
Over the last decade, construction businesses developed very positively in the Arab world. This is in particular true for the United Arab Emirates as the home of the world’s highest structure, the Burj Khalifa in Dubai, and of the largest building in terms of total floor area, Terminal 3 of the Dubai International Airport. Due to this ongoing boom in the Arab world, Ghorfa Arab-German Chamber of Commerce and Industry has decided to publish an annual reference work. This publication aims to give an overview on construction and consulting projects in the Arab world which are already or will be realised by German companies in cooperation with Arab and international partners.

Energy Efficiency Tapping a Hidden Resource - Energy Efficiency in the Middle East and North Africa

Addressing the MENA region’s challenges—diversifying economies to create jobs for millions of unemployed young people, bringing education and health services to those who lack them, sheltering
economies from the see-saw of oil-price volatility, and improving the lot of the region’s most vulnerable people—those tasks call for careful stewardship of resources.

The region’s petroleum exporters have established stabilization funds to capture windfall revenuesearned during periods of high worldwide oil prices and to conserve them for use in leaner times. Such funds have received considerable attention from economists and the press.

But another form of stewardship—one that can benefit the region’s net oil importers as well as its net exporters—has been much less prominent. Truly a hidden resource, energy efficiency has vast potential to benefit the economies of the region.

The scale of the potential benefit mirrors the inefficiencies in the region’s use of energy today. Addressing those inefficiencies is not an easy matter, but international experience indicates that it can be done. Political commitment, keen analysis, ample communication, and institutional depth and dexterity are all required, as we shall see in the nine short chapters that follow, each based on a longer treatment in the full version of this study.
